  • Latest rumour

The latest rumour in the SciFi world is that there is interest in a number of parties to remake the TV series Space 1999. Of course the title would have to change, but the premise would be the same with the moon being thrown out of orbit and into deep space.

There are of course a number of scientific details that need to be addressed that were missed in the original series including the velocity that the moon would need to reach to leave our solar system to visit other planets. One suggestion is Earth scientists are using an experimental FTL (Faster than light) drive that accidentally "jumps" the entire moon, instead of the experimental capsule. Using an inertia-less drive it sends the moon shooting off into space at hundreds of times the speed of light.

  • Battlestar pre-quel

A 2 hour pilot for a new series has been given the green light, dealing with life 50 years before the current Battlestar series.
The series called 'Caprica' follows two Caprican families the Adamas and the Greystones, rivals in every way, who compete in the burgeoning technology of artificial intelligence and robotics that will eventually lead to the creation of the Cylons.

They aim to recreate the gritty thought-provoking, emotional, and compelling character drama that has been the recognised strength of BSG.

  • Dark Fields

Universal pictures are making a film version of Alan Glynn's novel The Dark Fields. The premise of the story:

Anything that promises to make us better, richer, cleverer is always seductive and powerful. This novel tells what happens when an drug, produced in the laboratory of a pharmaceutical corporation, is accidentally let loose in society at large. The central character Eddie Spinola, an intellectual slacker and former cocaine addict, is eking out a living as a copywriter for a small publishing house. Through a bizarre series of coincidences, Eddie finds himself in possession of the drug MTD-48, a drug that has some curious effects. On his first trip, Eddie discovers that the drug boosts the intellect, making him far smarter -- but also faster, more intuitive, and more charismatic. By warding off sleep and focusing his attention span, Eddie finds that the drug enables him, in a matter of hours, to write a book, learn a foreign language, or predict certain events by detecting patterns in vast amounts of information.

The film version will have Shia LaBeouf ("I Robot", "Constantine", "Transformers")in the lead role of Eddie and Neil Burger (“The Illusionist”) will direct the pic.
